Aikido reached Iceland and was practiced by an informal group of enthusiasts for many years. The time came in January 1996 to form Aikikai Reykjavík as a sports club in the Icelandic sports federation and since then, aikido has been practiced without interruption for 30 years.

Join us in our Dojo in Reykjavík from Thursday 29th of January to Sunday 1st of February 2026 to celebrate this momentous occasion. We will hold a seminar with excellent instructors for a weekend of pure aikido joy. After training on Saturday we are invited to the University of Iceland Japan Festival for a public introduction to the art of Aikido and demonstration. Saturday culminates in the celebration dinner.

Confirmed instructors are Kobayashi, Hiroaki 7. Dan Shihan, Aldenklint, Urban 7. Dan Shihan and Sparby, Cenneth 7. Dan Shihan. Instructor profiles are available.

Pre-registration is open now. Price for the whole seminar is ISK 15,000 (€100) until 1st of December.

Normal registration price is ISK 20,000 (€140) and will close on 10th of January.

Preliminary schedule is available.
